You speak of sacrifice, but it is not my sacrifice I offer. It is yours I ask of you. I can offer you my life, but it is a short life; I can offer you my heart, though I have no idea how many more beats it shall sustain. But I love you enough to hope that you will not care that I am being selfish in trying to make the rest of my life - whatever length - happy, by spending it with you. I want to be married to you, Tessa. I want it more than I have ever wanted anything else in my life. That is, if you love me, too.
— Jem Carstairs, Clockwork Prince (via infernalmortalquotes)
Tessa had begun to tremble. This is what she had always wanted someone to say. What she had always, in the darkest corner of her heart, wanted Will to say. Will, the boy who loved the same books she did, the same poetry she did, who made her laugh even when she was furious. And here he was standing in front of her, telling her he loved the words of her heart, the shape of her soul. Telling her something she had never imagined anyone would ever tell her. Telling her something she would never be told again, not in this way. And not by him.
And it did not matter.
“It’s too late”, she said.
Clockwork Prince (via infernalmortalquotes)
We live and breathe words. It was books that kept me from taking my own life after I thought I could never love anyone, never be loved again. It was books that made me feel that perhaps I was not completely alone. They could be honest with me, and I with them.
— Will Herondale, Clockwork Prince (via infernalmortalquotes)

“Miss Collins, I know that whatever you tell me, it will be the truth. In many ways, of all those I have met in London, I find you the most trustworthy—more so than my own family.”

Well, since the prequel is not done—yet—I would have to say Clockwork Prince. Emotional, heartbreaking, Clockwork Prince.

‘I would have chosen death for a chance to tell you the truth, Tessa, if I could have been assured that death would be my own. And that is why I envied Sydney, for he was free.’

Possibly my favourite line from the whole, perfect inscription. I may even love it more than the end passage (although it’s close)…I just…gah, the whole thing is perfect, so it’s hard to choose a favourite part - but at the moment, that line wins for me.
